On a lighter note

On Wednesday February 7, when the nurses were preparing Shelsi for Chemotherapy, she got a call on her cell phone. Shelsi sells Avon and has a couple of new women in her "down-line", and the call was from one of them. The nurses had just given her some medication to help her relax through her first chemo ordeal when the pill took affect.

I’m sure we all can relate to that feeling when a heavy medication takes hold and suddenly your body and mind feel no pain and all you want to do is laugh. Well, that’s exactly what happened . She got really silly and her movements became a little slower as she said “do I get this everyday?”

The nurse and I were laughing with her when the call came in. The woman on the phone did not know about Shelsi’s condition, nor that she was in the hospital - let alone beginning chemotherapy at that very moment. But Shelsi in her usual form handled the call with amazing grace and professionalism. She walked her friend through the process of ordering the Avon supplies she needed off the website, made sure she had all the information she needed, and told her to call anytime if she had any questions, and then they said their good-byes.

I think she didn’t want to embarrass her and make her feel bad for calling about business at this time. Shelsi really is an amazing soul and I’m not saying that just cause I’m her mom ;-)
