I asked Shel on Saturday (April 7) how her day was going and she responded “Good but lazy.” I explained to her that with what she is going through her lazy is like a marathon to the rest of us. Her body is waging a battle right now and without her lifting a finger it’s expending all her energetic resources trying to heal. So in her world there is no such thing as lazy. She responded, “is that why I’m so tired”?

Last week when her fever kept spiking at around 102 or 103 and her white cell count had dropped so drastically low I kept wondering why the doctor hadn’t given her the immune boosting shot of Neulasta this time around. Shel explained to me they wanted to see what her immune system would do on its own - so for over a week her body battled. When I spent Thursday with her it was the sickest and most tired I’d seen her. It broke my heart. But by Friday her own defenses were pulling ahead in the battle and her fever started coming down without the use of Tylenol. Her white cell count had also returned to almost normal. WHEW!

She is trying to keep pretty quiet lately because talking still makes her cough. She told us that she got frustrated the other day because of the cough and was having difficulty breathing again so she said a prayer. Immediately she felt relief and got the impression that she should try and not talk a lot. So that is what she is doing. Thank goodness for text messagingJ

There are so many amazing stories that have come out of this experience that will continue to live on long after Shel is healed and growing old with Eric. One story is Dr. Akombo, President of MTI Arts International singing a healing song to Shelsi on her voice mail. How he came into our lives was very serendipitous. One day I will share the story. For now you can read about him and his healing musical work at http://mtikenya.tripod.com

That’s about all for now. She will be doing round 5 of chemo on Wednesday. Have a beautiful Easter Sunday everyone and be grateful for all life has to offer.

Shelsi is the daughter of Sheri and Ric Hancock, and the wife of Eric Stolworthy. On Jan 25th she was diagnosed with "Diffused Large B-cell lymphoma" -- in other words, Cancer. It manifested as an 14 cm mass in her chest that was pushing on her heart and constricting the blood flow to the rest of her body. Now she is out of Intensive Care but is still undergoing Chemotherapy treatments. Her husband Eric, her parents Ric & Sheri and all the rest of her family and friends thank you dearly for all your prayers and support!
