[Tuesday, February 20, 2007] This is actually a "catch-up" going back to Valentine's Day.

On the morning of February 14th Shelsi awoke to a "heart attack" -- but don't panic, it wasn't the kind that threatens life or circulation -- it was a far kinder, joyful, grand-display-of-love kind.

The night before, Kira, and Andrew showed up around midnight at the hospital with fists full of paper hearts, lovingly crafted by the same hands (and heart) that longed to "paper" the walls with them.

One little problem -- this was back when Shelsi was still in intensive care -- back when the mass in her chest was still making sleep hard to hold onto. Bottm line: she kept waking up. Fortunately, Shel didn't catch them in the act, mainly because even the initiation of action was foiled by her frequent slumber slumps. All they were able to achieve was the application of tape to the back of all the hearts.

Kira and Andrew ran out of time, so they passed the task on to Eric, who snagged a segment of prolonged Shelsi-sleep, and successfully shrouded the walls with the paper hearts.

When Shelsi awoke that morning, it was to a panorama of paper passion that evoked tears of joy and gleeful grins all around.

On a similar note, Lisa, a long time friend of the family, produced a set of paper hearts that are day-by-day being signed by members of the hospital staff (who are pleased to have a way to show their appreciation for Shelsi's delightful manner) and added to posters filled with the extolling sentiments of the Doctors and Nurses that have attended Shelsi throughout her ordeal.

When Shelsi was moved to the new room-with-a-view, all of the hearts and posters were transferred and now adorn those walls.

Shelsi is currently at Cedars Sinai Medical Center at Los Angeles, in the South Tower, room #4903 [Shelsi still needs lots of rest, so it's probably wise to call before visiting] -- see Map or Directions

Eric & Shelsi in front of her new "Window with Curtains" & a tantalizing peek at the hearts d'jour

Shelsi is the daughter of Sheri and Ric Hancock, and the wife of Eric Stolworthy. On Jan 25th she was diagnosed with "Diffused Large B-cell lymphoma" -- in other words, Cancer. It manifested as an 14 cm mass in her chest that was pushing on her heart and constricting the blood flow to the rest of her body. Now she is out of Intensive Care but is still undergoing Chemotherapy treatments. Her husband Eric, her parents Ric & Sheri and all the rest of her family and friends thank you dearly for all your prayers and support!
