[Sunday, February 18, 2007] I came home Saturday after spending 3 nights and 4 days with Shelsi. Two of those nights were in her new "unmonitored" room! I am really grateful to work for a company and have a boss who is so understanding and supportive right now.

Shelsi was feeling a little worse than usual two of the days I was there - mostly from residual affects of the chemotherapy. Her white count had plummeted significantly from Wednesday to Thursday (which is completely normal about a week to 10 days after chemo) and she felt extra tired and intermittently nauseous and her cough seemed worse. But by Saturday her white count had raised back up a little and she felt well enough to take another stroll around the hospital.

She took a shower, put on a pair of her new P.J.'s, dawned her surgical mask (required if she leaves her room) and for 20 minutes, we, very slowly, wandered about the complex. Her cough seemed much better. When we returned, one of her doctor's, Dr. Lim was there and was happy to see her up and about. We were concerned that the staff wouldn't be as attentive to Shel on a regular floor as they were in CCU, but they have been awesome!

The doctor's are pretty sure Shelsi's hair will fall out from Chemo. It usually starts falling out within 1 to 3 weeks after the first therapy session. It hasn't started yet, though, so her sister, Kira, came in Friday night and cut her hair. It looks SO cute! She has bangs and then it's to her chin in the front and layered a little in the back. Before cutting it, she put it in a braid in the back and then cut the braid off first so Shel could keep it. We did get pictures with Shelsi's camera of the whole process, so when Eric can download the pix I will put a picture of the "new" Shel on the website.

Eric was able to get most of the initial work done at home that he left on Wednesday to do, but they are still in need of an electrician and a plumber to finish. We are praying that it can get done before Shel comes home, which could be as soon as the end of next week after her next Chemo session starts.

That's about it for now. If you want additional information, or have questions that I haven't answered here, please feel free to email me directly. I would be happy to hear from you. Once again - thank you all for your amazing love and support. You are making this journey much less fearful because of your love and faith. And a BIG THANK YOU to those who have already signed the Guestbook. It's a great way to communicate with Shelsi. If you haven't already, simply click on the link (above), or go back to the home page and you can click on the link to sign it!

Shelsi is currently at Cedars Sinai Medical Center at Los Angeles, in the South Tower, room #4903 [Shelsi still needs lots of rest, so it's probably wise to call before visiting] -- see Map or Directions

Eric & Shelsi with Nephews Tony & A.J. on Mom’s day 2006

Shelsi is the daughter of Sheri and Ric Hancock, and the wife of Eric Stolworthy. On Jan 25th she was diagnosed with "Diffused Large B-cell lymphoma" -- in other words, Cancer. It manifested as an 14 cm mass in her chest that was pushing on her heart and constricting the blood flow to the rest of her body. Now she is out of Intensive Care but is still undergoing Chemotherapy treatments. Her husband Eric, her parents Ric & Sheri and all the rest of her family and friends thank you dearly for all your prayers and support!
