[Friday, February 16, 2007] Sorry it took so long to post another update -- all those things I postponed to get this site together would wait no longer -- but I'm back ;)

Shelsi was moved out of the ICU last night, onto the "unmonitored floor" in the Oncology Unit, which is HUGE! The day before, she underwent another MRI and the results indicated that her heart is out of danger!

Thus the move to a new, brighter, friendlier, room. The attributes, as listed by Shelsi, are:

  • A window with curtains!
  • Textured wallpaper!
  • A shower !!
  • And, as Sheri pointed out:

  • No alarms going off all night!!!

In her new room plants and flowers are allowed, but it's probably best to avoid these because of the potential for pollen, spores, fungus, and other such airborne agents since, as expected, Shelsi's white blood count is quite low and she is still suffering a bit from bronchial distress (gift cards or balloons are a nice alternative).

She can, now, get up and walk around, which has brought cheer to both her and her mom. Last night, together, they both took a tour of the new floor.

So, Shelsi is doing a LOT better (in fact she says she is "feeling great"), and though there is still a cough, she is much more comfortable and appears to be out of the darkest part of the woods.

On another note, Eric (Shel's husband) went home to Camarillo on Wednesday to finish up construction that will accommodate Shelsi's convalescence when she is finally discharged (see Needs & Gratitude) and won't be back at Shelsi's side again until Saturday. Because of that, Sheri took the rest of the week off (from her job at SafeGuard) to be with Shelsi (so she wouldn't be alone) .

Again, thank you ALL so much for your prayers and support -- it is really making a difference!

Shelsi is currently at Cedars Sinai Medical Center at Los Angeles, in the South Tower, room #4903 [Shelsi still needs lots of rest, so it's probably wise to call before visiting] -- see Map or Directions

Shelsi and her younger sister Kira

Shelsi is the daughter of Sheri and Ric Hancock, and the wife of Eric Stolworthy. On Jan 25th she was diagnosed with "Diffused Large B-cell lymphoma" -- in other words, Cancer. It manifested as an 14 cm mass in her chest that was pushing on her heart and constricting the blood flow to the rest of her body. Now she is out of Intensive Care but is still undergoing Chemotherapy treatments. Her husband Eric, her parents Ric & Sheri and all the rest of her family and friends thank you dearly for all your prayers and support!
