Shelsi made it through her first chemo treatment and tolerated all the medication pretty well. Thank goodness for the new anti nausea drugs! Eric said she had a little bit of a rough time during the night with some body aches and nausea, but they gave her some meds and she was able to get a really good night's rest. Her heart behaved itself all night so the alarms didn't sound every time she started to fall asleep like the had night before.
The Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Dr. Fontana, met with us for a few minutes yesterday and stated he's seen similar situations before and no patient has ever needed open-heart surgery. Another doctor, Dr. Connor who was visiting the hospital yesterday from Canada came to visit Shel with Dr. Lill (her oncologist) and he said the same thing as Dr. Fontana, that he's never seen anyone in her situation require open-heart surgery.
Dr. Beirer, of the Critical Care unit that is treating Shel, came in today and did a bedside ultra sound. He said there is already noticeable improvement!
Let's just keep envisioning that day-by-day her body is restored to its healed, whole and healthy state once again - just like her spirit is.
Shelsi is currently at Cedars Sinai Medical
Center at Los Angeles, in the Saperstein
Critical Care Unit room 5S62 [during some of the treatments they don't allow visitors, so it's probably wise to call first] -- see Map
or Directions
